The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) contracted Environmental Noise Control, Inc. after a sinkhole, water seepage, and “internal erosion” conditions were discovered at the Boone Dam in East Tennessee.
TVA was concerned about both sound and light pollution during the rehabilitation, especially with operations and pumping units running continuously, so it sought a comprehensive sound barrier and light mitigation solution.
ENC responded by designing and fabricating a nearly 1,000-foot-long barrier for the dam, which could withstand wind loads of up to 120 miles per hour.
The sound and light mitigation strategy incorporated ENC’s STC-25 acoustical barrier blankets deployed on its K-Rail Mounted Temporary Sound Wall system, reaching a height of 16 feet.
Providing supervision during the barrier installation, ENC’s solution continues to be a highly successful and effective sound barrier technique throughout the ongoing refurbishments of the rehabilitation project.
